His Majesty The King’s, Her Majesty The Queen’s and Loom Nam Khong Pijai Scholarships have been announced for Master’s degree studies at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The scholarships were announced following a meeting of the AIT Acting President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai with the Secretary-General of the Office of Higher Education Commission (CHE), Mr. Apichart Jeerawuth, Thailand on 23 April 2013.

Abstract:Dr. Kiem will begin with a brief overview of the University of Newcastle (Australia) including undergraduate and postgraduate offering and also opportunities for collaboration on research projects within the Faculty of Science and IT.Dr. Kiem will then summarise his main research activities that include:• Understanding and adapting to flood risk in a variable and changing climate (Australia focus)• Eastern Seaboard Climate Change Initiative and the NSW/ACT Regional Climate Model (NARCliM)• Climate change scenario development, impact assessment and adaptation planning for the Mekong River Basin (summary of recent work done for Asian• Development Bank and the Mekong River Commission)• Understanding drought in Australia and its relationship to large-scale climate phenomena (e.g. ENSO etc)• Distributed hydrological modellingAbout Dr. Kiem: Dr Anthony Kiem is a hydroclimatologist and senior lecturer within the Faculty of Science at the University of Newcastle in Australia.

A packed Milton Bender Auditorium crowd replete with suggestions for strengthening the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) marked the Institute Forum organized on 2 May 2013. Acting President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai spoke directly to faculty and staff, elaborating on a number of specific challenges facing the Institute as well as many positive new developments.

An Institute Forum will be held on 2 May 2013 from 1330-1530 hours at the Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium. Acting President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai will address the Forum and will brief AIT faculty and staff about importance institutional matters.
Workshop on “Social Business 101 – Empowering Social Entrepreneursâ€
An introductory social business workshop titled “Social Business 101 – Empowering Social Entrepreneurs” will be organized from 1-4 May 2013 at the AIT Conference Center. The workshop is intended to serve as a crash course in social business for NGOs, SMEs, academia, corporate sector or private.
73 students to arrive from JNTUK to AIT in August 2014
Seventy-three students will arrive from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK), Andhra Pradesh, India to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in August 2014 to pursue a Master’s degree under the expanding Unified Program. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Social Awareness, Health and Education (SHE) Foundation, India and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Prof. Sivanappan Kumar and Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut appointed Acting Vice Presidents
Two esteemed AIT faculty members have been appointed by the AIT Board of Trustees to serve as vice presidents of the Asian Institute of Technology. Professor Sivanappan Kumar was appointed Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and Professor Kanchana Kanchanasut was made Acting Vice President for Research (VPR), as endorsed by the Board at its meeting on 22 April 2013.

A Career Fair is being organized by AIT’s Career Center on 24 April 2013 from 0900-1700 hours at the AIT Conference Center.On the agenda will be job placements, internship opportunities, career advice, on-the-job training, partnership opportunities and networking with representatives of company and organizations.
