Kyoto University seeks collaboration with AIT

Prof. Fujii, who had served as a seconded faculty at AIT from
1991-1993, stated that many senior officials of Kyoto University had
served at AIT in various capacities. Expressing his desire to extend
the collaboration, Prof. Fujii inquired about agricultural studies at
AIT. The delegation stated that they had worked on air quality
monitoring in Thailand, particularly on Carbon Monoxide and Ozone for
over 15 years.

Welcoming the delegation, AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
stated that AIT has always enjoyed a very strong relationship with
Japan. Citing the example of joint appointments between University of
Tokyo and AIT, Prof. Worsak proposed a similar arrangement with Kyoto
University. Prof. Worsak also welcomed the suggestion of linkage
between the two universities in the field of agriculture stating that
the Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees is keen on ‘food’ as being
one of the key areas of expertise at AIT.

The delegation from Kyoto University also included Prof. Yoshizumi
Kajii of the Faculty of Human and Environmental Sciences; Prof. Shinya
Funakawa of Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies; Prof. Eiji
Nawata, Vice Dean for International Affairs, Dr. Huynh Trung Hai of
Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam; and Dr. Habuer of
Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies.

Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, Vice President for Resource Development, AIT and
Ms. Carol Guzman of External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO)
also joined the meeting.
