In a meeting at AIT on 28 April 2015, Dr. Matthew Kennedy, Chair,
Advisory Board, CTCN described CTCN is “a link between technology,
finance and capacity building, and technology is a key pillar.” CTCN
responds to all three arms, and technology continues to be one of the
leading lights of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC), he added.
Mr. Jukka Uosukainen, Director, CTCN stated that AIT is touching many
aspects of science, technology and environment, and this is critical
for CTCN consortium partners. CTCN promotes the accelerated transfer of
environmentally sound technologies at the request of developing
countries, and in this respect the role of its consortium partners,
including AIT is very critical. Mr. Rajiv Garg of the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) also joined the delegation.
Prof. Mukand S Babel, Director,Center for Sustainable Development in
the Context of Climate Change (SDCC) presented an overview of the
activities of SDCC. Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President for Academic
Affairs; Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice President for Research; Prof.
Jayant Kumar Routray and Dr. Shobhakar Dhakal, of School of
Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Dr. Victor Shinde,
Senior Specialist, School of Engineering and Technology (SET); and Dr.
Gabrielle Groves, Head, External Relations and Communications Office
(ERCO) also attended the meeting.
CTCN is a consortium is led by the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) and includes UN Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO), along with 11 international research and development bodies,
including AIT. CTCN is the implementing arm of the Technology Mechanism
of UNFCCC.
