Welcoming the delegation AIT’s Vice President for Resource Development,
Prof. Sivanappan Kumar stated that AIT has always focussed on
sustainability and that sustainability is an underlying theme across
the entire Institute.
The delegation from USM which included Dr. Mutharasu Devarajan,
Director Industry Networking, USM, Penang; Prof. Hamidi Abdul Aziz ,
Chairman, Waste Management Cluster, USM, Penang; and Prof. Zainal
Alimudin of Biomass Technology, USM, Penang, were keen to learn about
innovation and intellectual property issues related to AIT’s research.
They stated that USM is the second oldest university in Malaysia, and
it is known as a research-intensive university. USM has also been
selected as an apex university in the country.
Prof. C Visvanathan, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD), presented the research directions of his school,
and shared AIT’s expertise in waste management and 3R (reduce, reuse
and recycle). Dr. Abdul Salam, Associate Professor, SERD, spoke about
biomass and research on energy resources and technology. Dr. Vu Duc
Hien, Senior Laboratory Supervisor, SERD; and Dr. Gabrielle Groves
Punyaratabandhu, Head, External Relations and Communications Office
(ERCO) also participated in the deliberations.
