New book on “Multi-level Forest Governance in Asia”

New book on “Multi-level Forest Governance in Asia”

Says Prof. Shivakoti, “This book examines prototype design guidelines
for collaborative forest governance through an evaluation process at
the level of its enforcement mechanism,” It takes a fresh look at the
issue of cross-scale interactions and multi-level governance by
unfettered and trustworthy outsiders, he says, adding that the
publication reveals how foreign, domestic and local ‘outsiders’ can be
involved effectively in the activities of forest use and management.
Such involvement and activities are expected to provide a breakthrough
in solving these problems, Prof. Shivakoti adds.

Published by Sage Publications, the 508-page book is targeted at
scholars, faculty members and researchers of community forestry, forest
governance, forestry, natural resources management, development studies,
along with government departments, research institutes, and NGOs.

Studies are presented from five countries in South Asia (Bangladesh,
India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan); six in South-East Asia (Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos); and three in
East Asia (China, Korea and Japan), with relevant empirical information
on resource management.

The book explores how effective forest governance can be achieved by
bridging multilevel outcomes. Further, the volume highlights the
importance of context in defining flexible policies for policy-makers,
development practitioners and the academic communities of these
countries.
