This year’s ‘Summer Education Camp
2015’ coordinated by AIT’s Professor Nitin Kumar Tripathi lasted from
June 30 until July 13. It attracted 81 students and two UGI faculty
members to live and learn at AIT’s verdant campus for a fortnight. The
undergrads were engineering, MBA and pharmacology students.

Held under the slogan “Build Your Dreams by Igniting, Innovating and
Inspiring”, the camp engaged the 3rd year students in interactive
technical sessions on space science, GIS, augmented reality,
nanotechnology, computer vision, computer graphics, biotechnology,
packaging technologies, Singapore Smart City, green city, telemedicine,
health GIS, open source software, GNSS and UAV mapping, low-cost
housing, ecology, robotics, project management and corporate

According to Prof. Nitin, Google applications skills development and
communication skills development sessions were particularly well
received by the camp goers. They also enjoyed the Rat Pack GPS game
that was organized, and then wound down with a meditation session that
applied the ‘Art of Living Concept.’

Out of class, the students experienced cultural, historical and
technical tours around metropolitan Bangkok to Ayutthaya, Bang Pa-In
Palace, Floating Market, Safari World, MBK, Future Park, Asiatique,
National Science Museum, Bangkok University and NECTEC. Research design
and career talk / brain-storming sessions were also arranged.

The last day of the camp was devoted to studying Unmanned Aerial
Vehicle (UAV) mapping and data processing. Students witnessed a drone
launched to a height of 300 meters capture campus aerial images, which
were later stitched together digitally into a land-use mosaic
map.

The students also met AIT President Worsak Kanok- Nukulchai, who
addressed them during a special cultural program and gala dinner. Key
faculty and resource persons from the camp included Dr. Oleg Shipin,
Dr. Louis Hornyak, Dr. Sohee Kim, Dr. Rajesh Chowdhury, Mr. Amir Izhar,

Notable people from Indian Business Associations in Thailand, such as

the event. Ms. Lidiya Zhuravylova, a professional dancer mesmerized the
audience with her sparkling performance. Students and staff of AIT also
entertained with a memorable song and dance number.

UGI faculty members Dr. Daya and Mr. Bhupesh said they were overwhelmed
by the experience, and noted that the camp had likely inspired their
students to one day continue their post graduate studies at AIT.
