AIT and iGroup move closer to offering pilot e-learning course from Skillsoft
Mr. David S. Shawah, Director of
Business Development and Mr. Lee Liang Hoe, Product Manager, explained
that iGroup represents American-based Skillsoft in the Asia Pacific
region. The pair introduced its blended Learning Management System
(LMS) and its extensive catalogue of online content subject matter. Mr.
Shawah said Skillsoft is the world’s largest provider of e-learning
content.

While most of Skillsoft’s online training courses have corporate
applications that are often inbedded in companies’ human resource
training programs, Mr. Shawah noted that the content also has
application for universities interested in developing online delivery
of short course training programs.

Prof. Nitin Tripathi, Director of AIT Special Degree Programs,
welcomed the guests and explained AIT’s interest to push forward with
e-learning. Both sides indicated a desire to develop a pilot program
for launch by the end the year.

Mr. Amir Izhar, Software Development Officer, AIT Consulting (AITC),
introduced its own LMS developed in-house. AIT’s consultancy arm
delivers tailor-made engineering-focused online courses for its clients
in Asia. The AITC system is termed as a ‘hybrid model’ that applies
online, on-the-job and in-class learning, he said.

Impressed by its robustness, Mr. Shawah noted that technical
applications like audio and video conference, and chat platforms could
be developed for the new pilot program.

Moving forward, AIT and iGroup will identify the blended learning
course to be offered through a co-branding approach. Courses to be
considered for the pilot program would fall under Leadership, Desktop,
Project Management, or Six Sigma.

AIT Consulting's information technology unit will study ways to link
the Skillsoft LMS and content with the AIT Consulting LMS, and develop
a technology platform to fit the needs of potential course-takers.
Later, an instructor will be identified and a joint business model with
be formulated by the partners.

AIT Consulting was represented at the meeting by Mr. Jonathan Manuel,
Software Development Manager, Mr. Timothy Carl Rice, Software
Development Officer, Mr. Muhammad Amir Izhar, Senior Software
Development Officer, and Mr. Abishek Bahadur Shah, Project Development
Officer.
