The weekly trip to the market has now become more sustainable, courtesy of an initiative of the Asian Institute of Technology Campus Sustainability Club (AITCSC). Moving beyond car-pooling that students and residents of AIT often practice when they travel from the Institute campus, the Club went a step ahead. They engaged a Songthaew, an indigenous mode of transportation, for the weekly grocery visit to the nearby Talad Thai market, which is one of the biggest markets of fresh farm produce in the region.

Mapping the relation between electricity access and people’s welfare

Studies suggest that greater access to electricity leads to increased people’s welfare, though empirical evidence is still limited. Narrating the relationship between electricity access and people’s welfare was Dr. Govinda R. Timilsina, AIT alumnus and Senior Research Economist, World Bank, at a talk on “Electricity Access in Developing World†delivered at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 9 February 2016.
JNTUH Rector visits AIT, discusses Unified International Bachelor-Master program

Rector of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Hyderabad (JNTUH), India, Prof. T. Kishan Kumar Reddy, visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 2 February 2016 to discuss the Unified Bachelor-Master program currently offered by the two institutes. Leading a delegation of four JNTUH officials and two representatives of the Social Awareness, Health and Education (SHE) Foundation, Prof. Reddy also inquired about other collaborative programs offered by the Institute.
