Google Scholar has designated two research papers authored by AIT experts as “Classic Papers.” Announced in June 2017, Google Scholar describes "Classic Papers" as a collection of highly-cited papers that have stood the test of time in their respective area of research.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) will organize an annual Thanat Khoman Memorial Lecture Series, with support from the John F Kennedy Foundation.

The recently inaugurated dwellings in the Indian Presidential Retreat are powered by AIT technologies. Twelve dwellings in the Presidential Retreat in Dehradun, the capital of the Indian province of Uttarakhand, which were inaugurated by the Indian President H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, have been constructed using the Onsite Sanitation Integrated Community Housing Technology Innovations developed at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

The establishment of the Bangabandhu Chair by the Government of Bangladesh at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) was quoted as an example of bilateral relationship during the Bangladesh-Thailand 7th Joint Commission.

Fifty-one participants from 20 countries participated in the two-week long GeoServices-4-Sustainability (GeoS4S) international summer camp which concluded at AIT on 2 June 2017. Dr. Sutat Weesakul has been appointed Director, Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute (HAII) in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand.

AIT’s Institute-Level Advisory Board (ILAB) met on 7 July 2017 to reflect on the current state of the Institute, analyze the academic, financial and development resources of AIT, and deliberate on focus areas and new opportunities.

AIT alumnus Dr Devendran Subhakar (Master’s in Energy, 1983) has been appointed the first Vice Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology – Andhra Pradesh (VIT-AP), India. VIT-AP is the first university to be established in Amaravati, the new capital of the Indian province of Andhra Pradesh.
