COVID-19 Official Announcement
March 18, 2020
AIT Closure
The Asian Institute of Technology is closely monitoring the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The health, safety and well-being of our AIT community is our top priority, while pursuing our education mission. Given the deteriorating world situation with the virus and in view of the Royal Thai Government’s announcement of March 17 requiring the closure of all schools across the country for two weeks, AIT has decided to take the following measures at this unprecedented time.
Interactive Online Classes from March 18 – April 24 (End of Semester)
Effective Wednesday, March 18, AIT has cancelled all face-to-face classes, and interactive online instruction will take place for all students until the end of the semester on April 24. AIT will ensure that our students’ education will continue online until then, so that they will complete their courses as scheduled. Details of how to conduct final examinations without students being physically present at AIT are being worked out. Thesis students can discuss their situation with their academic advisors. Students’ ability to graduate on time should not be affected.
Students May Leave AIT Campus If They Choose
AIT students may choose to return to their home country during the closure period to continue their online education. For those who choose to remain on the AIT campus, we welcome them – and this includes our exchange students. Whatever option a student chooses, he/she must inform their academic advisor and the Office of Student Affairs, as the institute needs to have a full accounting of where all students are during the next few weeks.
AIT Campus Operations
Based on the Thai Government’s announcement on school closures from March 18-31, AIT operations over this two-week period will be primarily on a “work from home” basis – except for mission-essential services, which will still be available, principally to serve the remaining students.
We will continue to update the situation and policy at AIT, as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
