The array of 18 research posters that adorned the display boards at
the AIT Conference Center exemplified the focused research being
carried out by students at AIT. A student-led affair, the one-day event
coincided with AIT’s biannual career fair.
Says Muhammad Shafiq, Chairperson of the AIT Students Union Academic
Committee, whose team organized the event, “ The research exhibition
had a three-fold purpose — to foster a research environment involving
students and AIT administration, to provide a platform for AIT students
to display their research, and to attract the interest of private
sector.” Based on the posters, three AIT students were approached by
private companies who wished to learn more about their research.
Eighteen entries were displayed at the research competition, out of
which 13 came from AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET),
three from the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD),
and two from undergraduate students. Six judges — Ir. Erik Lucas Julien
Bohez and Dr. Huynh Trung Luong of Industrial and Manufacturing
Engineering (IME), Dr. Sangam Shrestha of Water Engineering and
Management (WEM), Dr. Vilas Nitivattananon of Urban Environmental
Management (UEM), Dr. Oleg Shipin of Environmental Engineering and
Management (EEM), and Dr. Anil Kumar Anal of Food Engineering and
Bioprocess Technology (FEBT), evaluated the posters.
Darshana Sanjeewan Adhikari of School of Engineering and Technology
(SET) was declared the overall winner. Three posters by Muhammad Faran
Majeed of Computer Science, Waqar Shahid Qureshi of Mechatronics, and
Salman Ahmed Khan of Mechatronics were declared joint winners in
SET.
In SERD, Hussnain Mukhtar of Environmental Engineering and Management
(EEM) was declared the winner. Nipuna De Silva was the winner in the
category of undergraduate programs.
