AIT signs MoU with Thai TV Channel 3

Aimed at using academic information as a knowledge source for
preventing road accidents, the MoU will build academic collaboration on
technical investigation of road accidents, traffic and vehicle
engineering. This will be incorporated for public dissemination,
enabling the news channel to conduct proper situation analysis,
identify factors behind road accidents, ascertain problem areas, and
aid emergency medical services.

The MoU was signed on 13 November 2014 between AIT and other partners
including the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth); The
Sustainability of Well-being for Thai People; World Health Organization
- Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability (VIP) Center; National
Institute for Road Safety Thailand; Thai Roads Foundation; Thailand
Road Safety Network; National Electronics and Computer Technology
Center (NECTEC); Road Accident Victims Protection Co., Ltd.; and BEC
News Bureau Co. Ltd.
Prof. Pennung Warnitchai of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology
(SET) signed the MoU on behalf of the AIT President.

“Since 2013, AIT’s Thailand Accident Research Center ( TARC) has been
sharing information with TV Channel 3 about road accidents, traffic and
aspects of road engineering for analyzing the cause of accidents,” said
Dr. Kunnawee Kanitpong, Associate Professor in Transportation
Engineering, SET. This has helped create a new form of accident news
reporting which not only focuses on the incident and the accident
victims, but also provides expertise in assisting accident
investigation, she added.

TV Channel 3’s program “Safe Roads” has been telecast since October
2013, particularly focussing on Thailand’s New Year and Songkran
festivities -- a period associated with a spurt in accidents. TV
Channel 3 plans to produce a “Safe Roads to Reduce Accidents into Zero”
again next year.
