Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the best-known institutes globally and we are happy to participate in a specialized training program. This was the remark of Dr. C. G Bettsurmatt, Commissioner,Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Mysore, India at the launch of a one-week long training course on 18 March 2013.
Accompanying him Mr. Akram Pasha, Joint Director, Directorate of
Municipal administration, Bangalore, also from the Indian province of
Karnataka, remarked that capacity building has been incorporated at all
levels of civil service in their province. He added that more officials
would be deputed by the provincial government to receive specialized
training at AIT.Forty-one officials of the Indian province of Karnataka began their
training course on project management at the Alistair M North Lecture
Theatre in AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development. The
officials include engineers, local government officials and teachers
nominated by the State Institute for Urban Development,
Karnataka.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. Amararatne Yakupitiyage, Acting Dean,
School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) stated that AIT
is a unique institute, which has students from over 40 countries. Prof.
Sivanappan Kumar of SERD elaborated on the Low Carbon Cities (LCC)
initiative in cities of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Prof.
Jayant Kumar Routray of SERD, who is the training course director,
suggested that participants could draw lessons from various projects
and development work in Thailand for possible replication in India.
Training Coordinator, Ms. Vineeta Thapa stated that the program covers
a wide range of aspects of project management.
