Indeed, AIT’s newest postgraduates got an early indication of the
caliber of their classmates from the AIT president last week during
their first day on campus.
“Look to your left and right,” Interim President Prof. Worsak
Kanok-Nukulchai told a crowded central auditorium on Orientation Day.
“One-third of the students sitting here were at the very top of their
class as undergraduates.”
According to the president, the incoming August 2013 Semester class
boasts a very high percentage of students accustomed to excelling at
honors levels.
Of those who have already enrolled, 60 students possessed the highest
grade point average of their graduating class, President Worsak said.
Moreover, 140 of those who gained admission ranked in the top 5% of
their class academically as undergraduates.
As of August 15, the total expected postgraduate enrollment will be
463 students, according to Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President for
Academic Affairs.
Apart from its academic credentials, Vice President for Academic
Affairs Prof. Sivanappan Kumar also congratulated the incoming class
for its international composition and gender breakdown. Thirty-seven
countries are represented in the new batch, which includes students
from all continents apart from Australia, he said. Approximately 40% of
the incoming class is female, Prof. Kumar added.
Overall, 78 per cent of those accepted to AIT will be pursuing a
Master degree, with the remainder working towards gaining a doctoral
degree.
