Newest students ‘welcomed’ on SU-led trip to Dream World

Though no one can say for sure, this year’s Student Union
Leisure-organized “Welcome Trip” for AIT’s newest students may have
broken a few records. That’s because on 14 September 2013 over 600 new
and current students headed to Dream World - a popular amusement
park in suburban Bangkok.

Thanks to the efforts of the whole Student Union (SU) team and a total
of 36 volunteer organizers, the day got off to a good start as people
were divided into the coaches that departed in the morning from the
central campus Lawson 108 convenience store. All told, it took twelve
packed buses to transport the large group of fair-goers to and from the
park as part of a large fun-filled AIT convoy.

On arrival, AIT’s big presence was immediately felt as the SU Leisure
Committee choreographed a memorable group photo at the park’s main
entrance. From there, students roamed the facility and delighted in the
exhibits and thrilling rides. At noon, friends and groups found each
other again for lunch at a special AIT buffet organized by Dream World.

In the afternoon, students were invited to enjoy “Snow Town”; a unique
attraction that is a highlight of the theme park. Here, in tropical
Thailand, friends experienced the feeling of -1 degree Celsius cold and
artificial snow while wearing a mandatory pair of boots and
warm jacket provided by the attendants. Also popular with AIT students
was the “4-D” theater and the ever popular roller coasters.

With little time left before closing, friends rushed for one last time
on the rides. A little weary but happy to have made new friends in such
a short time, everyone gathered to return to the AIT campus together.

The annual SU Welcome Trip is intended for students to get to know each
other and for newcomers to mingle with their AIT seniors. After less
than a month on campus since Orientation, Dream World in Thailand was
where many new memories were made and students established close
bonds as a class and as proud “AITians”.
