AIT signs MoU with Department of Industrial Works

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), Ministry of Industry, Royal Thai Government. The agreement was signed by Mr. Mongkol Pruekwatana, Director General, DIW, and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai on 26 January 2018.

The purpose of this MoU is to enable cooperation to facilitate and support technical activities between AIT and DIW for assessing the current situation of dioxin emissions and it’s management in Thailand. The MoU will cover joint research activities, joint seminar and training activities, exchange and participation of staff for research, lectures and discussions, exchange of information including research data, publications and academic materials, and exploring other areas of collaboration in related issues.

“The partnership will provide DIW with data and information required for efficient management of dioxins,” Prof. Worsak said. He stated that AIT’s collaboration will help address a wide range of environmental issues, including toxic emissions. “A comprehensive management is required for proper control of dioxin emissions in Thailand,” he added.

DIW Director, Mr. Mongkol Pruekwatana, suggested that in the future, this exercise can also be expanded to cover the emerging Easter Economic Corridor (EEC).

Participating in the partnership event from DIW were Mr. Mongkol Pruekwatana, Director General, Mr. Chairat Liangsupong, Director of Industrial Waste Management Division, Mr. Rintawat Sombutsiri, Director of Production Technology and Industrial Zone Division, Mr. Payouw Kummook, Director of Research and Industrial Pollution Warning Division, Mr. Tawan Taweethavornsawas, Director of Factory License Service (Section 1), Mr. Pattarapon Limpakdee, Director of Industrial Waste Management (Sub-Division 3), and Ms. Jittiya Chutong Engineer, Professional Level Staff. AIT and experts from its partner organizations included Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, AIT President, Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Professor, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change (EECC), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul, Assistant Professor, EECC, SERD, Dr. Didin Agustian Permadi, Research Specialist, EECC, SERD, Mr. Shawn Kelly, Director, Office of External Relations, Mrs. Suparatana Jotisakulratana, CEO - UAE Consultant Co., Ltd., Dr. Matsumura Toru, Executive Director of the Board - IDEA Consultants, Inc., Mr. Wirote Chansri, General Manager - UIA Co., Ltd., and Dr. Mori Taiki​, IDEA Consultants, Inc.
