Thailand cabinet approves new AIT Charter


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also been authorized to proceed
with negotiations with Asian Institute of Technology on the drafting
the Headquarters Agreement between the Government of Thailand and Asian
Institute of Technology within the specifications of the Draft
Negotiation Framework.

The AIT Charter was signed on 25 August 2010, when H.E. Kasit Piromya,
the then Foreign Minister of Thailand, proposed the adoption of the AIT
Charter by consensus. After signing by H.E. Kasit Piromya, the new AIT
Charter was signed by designated representatives of 12 countries and
one International organization. They included People’s Republic of
Bangladesh, Kingdom of Cambodia, Republic of India, Japan, Federal
Democratic Republic of Nepal, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of
Philippines, Republic of Seychelles, Democratic Socialist Republic of
Sri Lanka, Kingdom of Sweden, Kingdom of Thailand, Democratic Republic
of Timor Leste and United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
Later Republic of Indonesia also signed the Charter on 20 January
2011.

So far Japan, Sweden, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan and have already
ratified the Charter and submitted the Instrument of Accession to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Royal Thai Government.
