Prior to moving to Bangkok in 2009 as an independent sustainability
consultant, Leena worked at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Secretariat in
Amsterdam for a number of years. After an initial period with the
technical development team working on GRI’s sustainability reporting
framework, she moved on to working on the development and engagement of
the global multi-stakeholder network that constitutes GRI. In this
capacity she interacted with hundreds of sustainability experts, CSR
practitioners, and organizations worldwide, from multinational as well
as small businesses, NGOs, academia, public agencies, investors, and
labor, and became well established in the field of business and
sustainability.
A key assignment for her was the organization of GRI’s first academic
conference in 2008 and the further engagement of academia to facilitate
dialogue and knowledge exchange between academics and practitioners on
sustainability issues and tools for advancing sustainable
development.

Governance from the VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a BA in
International Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK. She also
