President moots AIT as a Safe, Secure and Sustainable campus

“By safety, we mean that AIT should be protected from a potential
disaster, especially flood. The AIT community should be protected from
risk and danger, and the buildings should be protected,” the President
said.

“By security, we mean the minimization of the danger or threat which
is a larger task. Though safety is within our hands as we can protect
ourselves from potential danger, security is the state of being free
from danger or threat,” Prof. Irandoust added. While safety is about
being protected, the condition of security is about being free from
danger. Being free from danger is a challenging task, and this cannot
be done alone, he remarked. It is AIT’s endeavour to make the campus
secure from danger, with the help of local authorities.

Prof. Irandoust added that the AIT campus will be environmentally
sustainable, helping AIT emerge as leader in sustainable and
environmentally friendly buildings. AIT has already identified a few
buildings which will be modelled as eco-friendly friendly buildings,
using the minimum of energy and utilizing natural light and air to
ensure that the cost of air conditioning and lighting is reduced.

The proposed lecture theatre complex is one such building, where the
existing AIT Extension building will be remodelled so that it emerges
as a hub of classroom learning. This shall be a showcase building for
all to emulate. The sustainable building concept also goes along with
AIT’s aim to ensure that it emerges as a knowledge hub on floods.

Informing the delegates at the event “One AIT for all: Towards a
Sustainable Future,” the AIT President stated that while AIT is known
for its expertise in water and hydrology, as well as disaster
management, the Institute will now seek to emerge as a Knowledge Hub in
the field of flood management. This is crucial since AIT is located in
the province of Pathumthani, and Pathumthani along with the province of
Ayutthaya is the pivot of flood management for Bangkok.
