The MOU was signed by Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT and Dr. Meg
B. Bishwakarma, General Manager, Hydro Lab. Dr. Bishwakarma stated that
they are keen to offer student internships and exchange of staff, apart
from other academic and educational exchanges. Dr. Bishwakarma provided
a detailed presentation of the activities of Hydro Lab, which is a specialized
company working in the field of hydraulics, sediment research, field
measurements and power-plant evaluation in Nepal and neighboring
countries. During his visit to AIT, he was accompanied by Mr. Yogesh
Khadka, laboratory manager, Hydro Lab.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Irandoust stressed the importance of
water as a critical research focus at AIT. He revealed that AIT would
soon establish a Center called Aware Water Research and Education
(AWARE), which will be dedicated to water-related issues. He also
highlighted the importance of Nepal as a partner country for AIT. “We
already have a project office in Nepal, and we are about to establish a
similar office in Shanghai, China,“ he added.
Dr. Mukand Singh Babel, Coordinator, Water Engineering and Management
Field of Study, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), said the
activities of Hydro Lab and AIT could complement each other. He added
that AIT is considering the launch of a Professional Master’s program
in hydro power.
Prof. Ram Manohar Shrestha, Professor Emeritus, AIT; Dr. Sangam
Shrestha of SET; Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations
and Communications Office (ERCO); Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary,
and Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer, ERCO also participated in the
MOU signing ceremony.
