University of Tokyo evinces interest in AIT

Prof. Maekawa informed about the new initiative of the Government of
Japan in establishing core universities for receiving and educating
international students. This is aimed at boosting the number of
international students in Japan. University of Tokyo is
under the Global 30 project which was launched by the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for
establishing core universities for receiving and educating
international students. It is one of the 13 universities selected for
this initiative. In this connection, the School of Engineering of
University of Tokyo is promoting special English graduate programs
apart from trying to improve the management of the international
office. He also elaborated on the newly established international
program at the School of Engineering.

The delegation inquired about AIT’s offices, its management of
exchange students, and alumni relations among other things. Apart from
Prof. Maekawa, the delegation comprised of Ms. Toshiko Nakamura,
Specialist in charge of Master’s Global 30 Course, OICE and Ms. Yuri
Marugata, Project Academic Support Specialist, OICE.

The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice
President (Research and Development). Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar, Dean,
School of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Pennung Warnitchai,
Coordinator Structural Engineering; Dr. Abdul Salam from Energy field
of study; Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Head, External Relations and
Communications Office (ERCO), and Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Program
Officer (ERCO) attended the meeting. Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Coordinator
for Promotions and Alumni Relations, and Mr. Benjamin Gargabite,
Coordinator (Admissions and Scholarships) also participated in the
meeting.
