Dr. Carolin stated that the number of students from Thailand in
Germany range between 900-1000 every year. Apart from engineering,
mathematics and natural sciences, the other subjects of interest for
Thai students are economics, law and social sciences (19 per cent).
Historically, the maximum number of foreign students in Germany arrive
from Central and Eastern Europe followed by the Asia, Australia and
Oceania region.
DAAD, which is the German
Academic Exchange Service, represents more than 300 universities of
Germany and is a self governing organization of German institutions.
Annually Germany awards 83 million Euros as scholarships to foreign
students.
Ms. Roongporn Tuaprakone, Senior Study Counsellor and Administrator
provided a detailed profile of research activities and the landscape of
higher education institutions in Germany. The DAAD delegation which
also included Ms. Tanawat Karnkulvithit, Study Counsellor and
Administrator also met students desiring more information on research
opportunities in Germany.
