Prof. Yang Academic Collection adorns AIT library

Handing over the collection to Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT,
Mrs. Yang said it was the wish of Prof. Yang that students should
benefit from his collection of books and monographs. Prof. Yang was the
guest speaker at AIT’s ninety-fourth graduation ceremony in 2002. He
was renowned in the fields of thermal fluid sciences, heat transfer and
biomedical engineering and has been the recipient of the Max Jacob
Award in 2007 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
“Prof. Yang wanted to visit AIT but he passed away on 15 April 2010,”
Mrs. Yang added.

The Yang collection is housed on the second floor of the AIT library
building. Welcoming the guests, Ms. Pranee Kiriyanant, Coordinator, AIT
library, said the first installment of the Yang collection was received
on 18 April 2002. The collection now has 736 books and 12 journal
titles.

Prof. Irandoust described the gesture of the Yang family as “wonderful
and valuable.” He said that Prof. Yang was not only a great scientist,
but also a great friend of AIT. “The entire AIT community is the family
of Prof. Yang,” he remarked. Mrs. Yang and her daughter, Ms. Ling
Hsiang Yang, were welcomed by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice
President Resource Development. The family later planted three trees in
the library compound.

Others who attended the function included Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice
President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Izel Ann Mojado-Dante, Head,
Administration; Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External Relations
and Communications Office (ERCO); Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director,
Fundraising; Ms. Ann Lopez Fontanilla, Head, Students; Mr. Lawal
U.Kankai, President, AIT Student Union, apart from representatives of
