Inaugurating the event, Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President
for Resource Development, AIT, complimented the students for their
enthusiasm. “It is your campus, and it is good that you are organizing
events that involve all students,” he remarked. Mr. Bhawat
Traipattanakul, President, AIT Students Union (AITSU) thanked Prof.
Worsak and all for participating in the event. Ms. Sujata Bhatia, who
hosted the event, remarked that the enthusiasm of the participants was
evident from the fact that almost 100 participants took part in the
marathon.
According to Mr. Rajeev Sinha, AITSU Sports Committee, two events were
organized including the Mini Marathon and Slow Cycling. The slow
cycling competition also saw participation from the children of AIT
International School.
In the category of 18-40 years (men), the marathon winner was Mr.
Sujan Tamrakar of School of Engineering and Technology (SET), followed
by Mr. Lahiru Maneesha, also of SET. Mr. Duong Thanh Thoai of School of
Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) came third. A consolation
prize was awarded to Mr. Bijay Pradhan of SERD.
In the category of over 40 years (men), Dr. Matthew Dailey was
followed by Dr. Akefault, both of SET.
In the category of 18-40 years (girls), Ms. Kelly Franklim of SERD
came first, followed by Ms. Tipusa Kilavit, also of SERD. Ms. Nipuni
Perera of SET won the third position. Two consolation prizes were
awarded to Ms. Sunny Amatya and Ms. Bibhuti Sharma, both of SET. Ms.
W.A.H.S.S. Wewala won the first prize in the category of women above 40
years.
The slow cycling race was won by Tuan of Vietnam, followed by Nikila
of Sri Lanka. Meng Hong of Cambodia came third, while Jayala of Sri
Lanka came fourth. In the slow cycling (kids), Tanakorn of Thailand was
followed by Saad of Pakistan, while Abdullah from Pakistan came third.
All three are from the AIT International School.
