AIT launches double degree program with Hokkaido University

The MoA signing ceremony was held at AIT on 17 March 2011 in the
presence of Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT, where Dr. Nitin V.
Afzulpurkar, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET) signed
the MoA on behalf of AIT. The MoA was initiated Prof. Takashi
Nakatsuji, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, HU, and Dr.
Kunnawee Kanitpong, Coordinator, TRE at AIT’s School of Engineering and
Technology (SET). Prof. Nakatsuji has been working closely with AIT for
many years and since 2007, he has been teaching a course at AIT under
the Japanese Government funded program called “HRD Endowment Fund for
Short-term Visiting Faculty from Japan to AIT.” He was accompanied by
Ms. Megumi Uchida, Secretary of the Dean of the Graduate School of
Engineering, HU.

The first batch of students will join the program in August 2011. The
Double Degree program will be extended to other field of studies later.
For AIT students, the first stage of the program will be delivered at
AIT, and the second stage will be delivered at HU. For students of HU, the
first and last stages will be at HU, while the second stage will be at
AIT.

Prof. Irandoust remarked that the Double Degree programs provide more
opportunities to students in terms of learning and exposure. Prof.
Nakatsuji hoped that more such programs between the two institutions
would follow soon.

Others who attended the ceremony included Dr. Thirayoot Limanond,
Adjunct Faculty, TRE-SET; Dr. Pritam Krishna Shrestha, Head, External
Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and Ms. Tiamkare
Thitithamtada, Program Officer, ERCO.
