The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL), Bhutan to enhance cooperation in delivering short courses and conducting training and capacity building courses for professionals. The MoU was signed by Mr. Phuntsho Gyeltshen, Chief Executive Officer, CDCL, and Dr. Eden Y. Woon, President, AIT, on 17 July 2019.
The MoU aims at stronger collaboration for the development of both long and short-term customized professional courses for CDCL professionals, postgraduate certificate and diploma, and courses for engineers and management staff at CDCL.
President Woon informed the CDCL officials of numerous new AIT initiatives, including incorporating more innovations in research, the establishment of an AIT Entrepreneurship Center, working in high technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, encouraging greater collaboration with industry, and increasing opportunities for AIT students to proceed to international internships.
Mr. Phuntsho Gyeltshen stated that while the company is fully owned by the Bhutanese government, it plans to set up subsidiaries over the next two to three years that will operate in the Asian entire region.
Mr. Phuntsho was accompanied by Mr. Kencho Tshering, General Manager, Human Resources and Administration, CDCL. The CDCL delegation also invited President Woon to visit the company during his proposed visit to Bhutan in August.
In addition to Dr. Woon, AIT was represented by Prof. Deepak Sharma, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Dieter Trau, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology; Prof. Pennung Warnitchai, Head, Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, SET; Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Executive Director, AIT Extension; Mr. Fazle Karim and Mr. Voravate Chonlasin, Director of Programs, AIT Extension; Mr. Shawn P. Kelly, Director, Office of International Affairs (OIA), and Ms. Sumana Shrestha of OIA.
