University of North Texas to open office in Bangkok, seeks AIT’s partnership

On a visit to AIT on 3 July 2012, Prof. Kuruvilla
John, Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, and Prof.
Marilyn K. Wiley, Senior Associate Dean, College of Business, UNT, stated that they were keen to
initiate exchange programs involving both student and faculty, besides
double degree, collaborative and sandwich programs. “UNT Bangkok Center
will emerge as the nerve center for further interactions in Thailand,”
Prof. Kuruvilla said. UNT has a thousand alumni in Thailand alone, he
added.

Prof. Kuruvilla expressed his interest in energy field of study, while
Prof. Marilyn explored the possibility of a joint program in the field
of business administration.

Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology
(SET), AIT stated that the Institute has a strong collaboration with
universities and institutes in Europe, and is looking for a North
American hub. AIT has had strong partners in Europe and East Asia, and
the Institute would like to work more with North American partners. Dr.
Amararatne Yakupitiyage, Associate Dean, School of Environment,
Resources and Development (SERD); Dr. Do Ba Khang of School of
Management; Dr. Abdul P Salam, Coordinator, Energy field of studies;
Dr. Raphael Duboz of Computer Science and Information Management (CSIM)
field of study; and Ms. Tiamkare Thitithamtada, Senior Program Officer,
External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO) also participated
in the meeting.
