The President briefed SAARC Secretary-General about AIT’s activities
in Nepal and the region. Prof. Irandoust informed Secretary-General
that the new AIT Charter has five signatories from the SAARC region
namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, which have
ratified and are a part of the new AIT Council.
The President also expressed AIT’s desire for initiating collaboration
with SAARC. The SAARC Secretary-General welcomed the suggestion stating
that AIT could initiate a collaborative mechanism with the South Asian
University, which has been operational since 2010 in New Delhi under
the aegis of SAARC.
The AIT President also conveyed the institute’s desire to see the
Republic of Maldives joining the new AIT Charter, given AIT’s close
collaboration with the Republic of Maldives. AIT has been working with
Maldives in several capacity building initiatives.
