Afghanistan delegation expresses admiration of AIT’s work

Led by Mr. Rohullah Osmani, Director General, Programs Design and
Management, Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service
Commission, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the delegation also
included Mr. Vakhtang Svanidze, Deputy Country Director, United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) Afghanistan, and Mr. Sultan Hajiyev, Chief
Capacity Development Advisor, National Institution Building Project,
UNDP Afghanistan.

During their visit to AIT on 21 September 2011, Mr. Osmani remarked
that AIT’s contribution towards capacity building in Afghanistan is
impressive and sought continuation of the endeavour. Mr. Svanidze
stated that UNDP will be very happy to facilitate AIT’s work in
Afghanistan.

The delegation met the AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust, who delved
on AIT’s commitment to capacity building in Asia. He added that AIT is
keen to help post-conflict countries like Afghanistan. The AIT
President also invited the Government of Afghanistan to become a
signatory of the new AIT Charter. The delegation visited AIT Consulting
where it’s Executive Director Dr. Naveed Anwar, informed them about
AIT’s partnership with Balkh University, Mazar-e-Sharif in Northern
Afghanistan. They also toured the AIT campus to learn more about its
offerings and facilities.

Others who attended the meeting included Prof. Sudip Kumar Rakshit,
Vice President for Research; Dr.Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, School of
Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Dr. Nitin Kumar
Tripathi, Associate Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET);
Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension; Dr. Pritam Krishna
Shrestha, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO);
and Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer, ERCO.
