AIT Flood Situation Update 2, 20 October 2011, 0900 hrs
Dear Members of the AIT Community,
Since my last update this morning, the broken dyke near the
AIT golf course, facing the highway, is now 90 percent fixed which is
the best we were able to do under these difficult circumstances. It is
extremely difficult to complete this task 100 percent due to the
prevailing conditions.
The other AIT dykes in the same area are currently being strengthened
with sandbags, and the team from Sodexo as well as AIT student / staff
volunteers are working hard on this. Since the work on some of the
dykes is fairly recent under the rainy conditions, they have not been
fully compacted, and remain quite vulnerable.
The levels of the water in the AIT canals are expected to increase due
to the leakage from the broken dyke. We are currently using all 5 pumps
to full capacity to pump out the water from the AIT canals.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will inform community
members of the situation and course of actions that might need to be
taken, in my next communication.
We thank you once again for your cooperation and vigilance.
Sincerely,
Professor Said Irandoust
President
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
