Prof. Irandoust appreciated the active role played by Dr. Prasarn in
AIT activities and briefed Dr. Prasarn regarding the AIT initiatives
including the new AIT Charter as well as the concept of ‘satellite
campuses’.
Prof. Worsak, invited Dr. Prasarn to become a member of the AIT
Endowment Foundation Board. He also invited Dr. Prasarn to participate
in the activities related to AIT Day 2010 on 6-7 September 2010. Dr.
Prasarn graduated with a Master’s in Engineering in 1976 from AIT’s
School of Advanced Technologies in the program Industrial Engineering
and Management. Dr. Prasarn has been a recipient of the AIT
distinguished alumni award. He has also served on the Board of AIT’s
School of Engineering and Technology (SET).
The AIT President revealed that the new AIT Charter will formally
accord AIT the status of an Intergovernmental organization. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Royal Thai Government will
sign the new charter on 25 August 2010 and open it for international
organizations and other countries for ratification. Dr. Prasarn
expressed his delight at this development and described it as a ‘great
achievement’.
The AIT President also elaborated Dr. Prasarn regarding the new
funding and business model which AIT is currently exploring. The
concept of ‘satellite campuses’ in seven different countries was
described in detail by the AIT President. AIT is now increasingly
engaging itself in capacity building in countries like Afghanistan and
Iraq, Prof. Irandoust added.
The Governor-designate of the Bank of Thailand, Dr. Prasarn evinced
great interest in the initiative of the Yunus Center at AIT and
described the concept of microfinance and social business as “very
relevant and extremely important”.
