Dr. Ahmed remarked that though HITEC University was relatively
new, it had established itself in Pakistan, courtesy its strong linkage
with the industry. The University is sponsored by Heavy Industries
Taxila Education Welfare Trust (HITEWT) and is located near the
industrial cluster which includes Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT),
Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF), Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC),
Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Telephone Industries of Pakistan
(TIP) and FECTO Cement.
AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust stated that AIT is interested in
establishing closer linkages with Pakistan and considers Pakistan as a
target country for establishing an AIT satellite campus. He added that
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Chairman of the Higher Education
Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, will be conferred honorary doctorate
degree by AIT. Prof. Irandoust added that the new AIT Charter will be
signed by August 25 which will accord the status of an international
organization to AIT.
Prof. Sudip Kumar Rakshit, Vice President – Research, introduced AIT
to Dr. Ahmed and remarked that internationality and a good network of
research and academic exchanges are the hallmark of AIT. Among those
who attended the meeting included Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice President
for Academic Affairs; Dr. Nitin V. Afzulpurkar, Dean, School of
Engineering and Technology (SET); Prof. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul of
Industrial Systems Engineering in SET; Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Program
Coordinator, ERCO; and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer,
ERCO.
