The function took place at the AIT football field, where students
planted the tree “Lagerstroemia speciosa”, also known as Pride of
India. The tree is small to medium sized and grows up 20 meters.
Organized by the AIT Student Union, the event witnessed participation
from the entire AIT community.
According to Mr. Sohail Mehr, Chairperson of the AIT Student Union
campus and environment committee, each tree was jointly planted by
representatives of four countries. The function also witnessed a
juggler’s performance by three students from France and a song by Ms.
Nita Kuswardhani, a doctoral student from School of Environment,
Resources and Development (SERD).
Prof Said Irandoust, President AIT and Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Vice
President for Academic Affairs planted a tree on behalf of the
President and the three AIT Vice Presidents. Ms. Izel Ann Mojado-Dante,
Head, Administration, Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary, AIT, Dr.
Tien Le Hoang, Head, Alumni Office planted a tree on behalf of the AIT
administration; while student representatives planted a tree on behalf
of the deans of three AIT schools and the AIT Extension.
