IPM training workshop begins at Vietnam

Thirty five participants 11 countries are attending the workshop which
is being organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Vietnam
National IPM Programme along with the Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) Regional IPM Programme.

According to Dr. Prabhat Kumar, coordinator, Asian Fruit Fly IPM Project, participants include
representatives from departments of plant protection, ministries of
agriculture, private sector as well as non governmental organizations.
Apart from the four Mekong river countries of Lao PDR, Cambodia,
Vietnam and Thailand; participants are from Myanmar, Timor Leste,
Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and China.

Apart from Dr. Chau, Dr. Ho Van Chien of Southern Region Plant
Protection Centre, Plant Protection Department, Vietnam; Mr. Jan Willem
Ketelaar, Chief Technical Advisor, FAO-IPM; Dr. Vijay Shanmugam from
Univesity of Griffith, Australia; and Dr. Kumar from AIT are actively
involved in the training program. The training is aimed at providing
hands-on skills to IPM personnel, apart from fostering Asia-wide
linkages. The project is funded by Taiwan International Cooperation and
Development Fund (ICDF), and is
