Commenting on the decision, Prof. Said Irandoust, President, Asian
Institute of Technology (AIT) said it is interesting that PPP model is
being adopted in the field of education by various countries. “AIT is
considering a new funding model and we are among the pioneers of the
idea of a PPP model for imparting education,” Prof. Irandoust
said.
It may be recalled that Prof. Irandoust had jointly authored an
article along with Mr. Vikrom Kromadit of the Amata group, in June
2010 in the Nation newspaper titled “Public Private Partnerships in
Higher Learning: The Time is Now.”
The Indian IIIT’s will be established in 2011-12, depending on the
response of the private partners and each institute shall have to meet
its own expenditure within five years of its establishment. The
government will introduce the Indian Institutes of Information
Technology Act, 2010 and would declare them as “Institutes of National
Importance.”
