The Second GMSARN International Conference 2007
: The Second GMSARN International Conference 2007 was successfully organized by GMSARN on 12th –14th December at Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel, Pattaya. The aim of the
conference was to provide one of the biggest GMS forums for participants to
disseminate and discuss their research findings. AIT co-organized this conference along with Khon Kaen University and Thammasat University. There were paper contributions from 12 different countries along with 140 participants. Out of the 110 abstract submissions, 74 papers were selected for presentations which comprised of 32 on Energy, 11 on Environment, 9 on Natural Resource Management, 13 on Development Planning and 9 on Material and Engineering. Selected papers would be peer reviewed for publication in the GMSARN International Journal. The GMSARN International Journal is a journal published by GMSARN dedicated to advance knowledge in energy, environment, natural resource management and development planning in GMS countries. It is expected that the increasing paper contribution will be from the GMSARN member institutions. Online paper submission is a new
feature of the journal to be introduced in the near future. From 2008 onwards, the GMSARN International Journal will be published 4 issues per year.

The Third GMSARN International Conference 2008 is scheduled on 12 – 14
November, 2008 in Kunming and will be co-organized by GMSARN, Asian
Institute of Technology, Kunming University of Science and Technology and
Yunnan University.

Eleventh Joint Meeting of the GMSARN Board and Council of

Advisors: In the Eleventh Joint Meeting of the GMSARN Board and Council of
Advisors, there were Rectors, Vice Rectors, Vice Presidents, and authorized
representatives from eleven GMSARN Board Member institutions, ADB
representative, along with council of advisors and observers. Acceptance of
Guangxi University as a new GMSARN Member Institution was one of the main
events that took place in the meeting. Guangxi University has corporations
and academic exchanges with 100 universities or research institutes in 28
countries and regions.

The new council of advisors will be formed for 2008 – 2009. They will serve
as the advisory roles to the GMSARN Board on individual basis. Nominations
from previous council of advisors and directors from institutions such as
UNEP, MI, MRC, SEI, GMS-BF and others, will be gathered. Final selections
will be done by GMSARN Secretary General

The next 12th Joint Meeting of the GMSARN Board and Council of Advisors
will be hosted by Yunnan University in Kunming on 14 November 2008, which
is back to back with the third GMSARN International Conference.

Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Secretary General of GMSARN, and his team prepared and organized of the successful conference and Board meeting. Dr. Paul Janecek,   Dr. Kyoko Kusakabe, and Dr. Weerakorn lead the projects under GMSARN.
