First UNU diplomas awarded
The e-learning diploma program in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) which started in September 2005 has successfully completed with a pilot batch of 11 participants from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Lao P.D.R., Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
A diploma ceremony was held on 15 December 2006 and was graced by AIT President Said Irandoust (above right) and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, dean of School of Engineering and Technology (SET). The first-ever United Nations University (UNU) diploma certificates were presented to the participants at the ceremony.
The program was offered by the Regional Water Virtual Learning Center (R WVLC) which has been in operation at SET's Water Engineering and Management field of study since January 2005. R WVLC was established at AIT in collaboration with the UNU International Network on Water, Environment and Health, Canada.
This e-learning program on IWRM for water professionals consists of 10 courses, each of 25 hours, leading to a diploma awarded by UNU. The first and the last courses of two weeks each are conducted face-to-face at AIT.
