A delegation of the China Scholarship Council (CSC) led by its Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Cao Shihai has sought greater cooperation with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Leading a three-member CSC delegation that visited AIT on 27 June
2016, Mr. Cao Shihai discussed ways and means to enhance its
partnership with AIT, as he elaborated on a wide range of programs that
CSC offers for Chinese nationals to study abroad.
CSC has a very popular faculty training program and it regularly sends
visiting scholars to various universities all over the world, Mr. Cao
Shihai said. CSC has also launched a special program where an entire
team of researchers receives support to conduct research in foreign
universities.
Yet another program encourages local universities and local
governments to send aspirants for foreign education and training
programs for periods ranging between 3-12 months, Mr. Cao Shihai
said. Similarly, various universities and institutes in China
have bilateral partnership agreements with close to 200 universities
all over the world. Another program focuses solely on Deans and
Administrative Directors who go abroad for training programs in
administrative management, he added.
Welcoming the delegation, AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
stated that AIT has recently signed a number of agreements with
universities in China. The CSC visit follows an agreement signed
between AIT and CSC when an AIT team visited China in May 2016. “We
welcome secondment of faculty members from China,” Prof. Worsak
remarked as he narrated how AIT had a long-standing tradition of
hosting seconded faculty members from various countries. He reminisced
that at one time, students from China formed the second largest cohort
of students in AIT, next only to students from Thailand. “It is our
mission to prepare global citizens, and promote better international
understanding,” the AIT President added.
The visiting delegation also offered suggestions on improving the
intake of Chinese students at AIT, and welcomed the AIT initiative in
forging bilateral cooperation with Chinese universities.
The three-member delegation included Mr. Cao Shihai, Deputy
Secretary-General, CSC; Ms. Li Tingting, Deputy Director, Division of
International Students Affairs; Mr. Wang Zhe, Deputy Director, Division
of Asian and African Affairs. Dr. Zhou Gaoyu, First Secretary, Embassy
of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand also accompanied the
delegation.
AIT was represented by Prof. Worsak, Prof. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul,
Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Anil Kumar Anal
of School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Mr.
Shawn Kelly, Acting Head, External Relations and Communications Office
(ERCO); Ms. Wannapa Pliansri, AIT-Royal Thai Government Relations,
ERCO; and Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Coordinator, Admissions and
Scholarships Unit.
