SCE Welcomes Alumnus and Indian Secondees

Young Huy Lee on Research Sabbatical at AIT
Professor Young Huy Lee (left) is on research sabbatical at AIT for a month. He is currently working intensively with Professor Dennes Bergado and based at the Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering Program. He is on leave as Professor and Associate Dean of Geotechnical Engineering Department at the School of Civil, Urban, and Environmental Engineering of Yeungnam University in South Korea.

An alumnus of AIT, Prof. Young Huy Lee obtained his Doctor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees in Geotechnical Engineering in 1986 and 1983, respectively. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Dongguk University in 1978. Among other interests, he works on soil behavior modeling.

Secondees from India Enhance Faculty teaching
For a number of decades now, teaching at AIT is enhanced through what we call as faculty secondments from partner organizations, notably government institutions. Faculty secondees enrich teaching at AIT as they come from various backgrounds and professions. AIT is very grateful to the Government of India for supporting the School of Civil Engineering with two faculty secondments this year, Professor Chitten Butchi Kameswara Rao and Professor Prabir K. Basudhar. They are both appointed as Visiting Professor. In the last Bulletin, SCE introduced to the AIT Community Prof. Rao. In this issue, the School is pleased to officially welcome Prof. Basudhar.

Professor Basudhar (left) is currently based at the Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering Program where he teaches Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. He has been affiliated as Professor of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur since 1991. He completed his B. Engineering degree from the Regional Engineering College (India) and obtained both his M. Tech. and Ph. D. (Civil Engineering) degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering. His areas of research revolve, among other interests, around limit analysis of stability problems in geotechnical engineering, landslides and slope stability analysis. He has published more than 60 papers in national and international journals and conferences. He can be reached through telephone extension: 5536 or e-mail: pkbd@ait.ac.th
