AARM's project goes to World Bank Global Competition finals

'Women in Aquaculture in Nepal,' a project initiated by AIT's Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) and the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (IAAS), Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal goes to the World Bank Global Competition finals. The project proposal was selected out of nearly 2,900 proposals as a finalist after two rounds of rigorous assessment process by the World Bank under its Global Competition, named 'Development Market Place 2007'.

The Team Leaders of the selected projects will present their project ideas and proposed activities before the jury of the final round of the global competition to be held in Washington DC at the end of May this year. The AARM's Project Team Leader, Dr. Ram C. Bhujel, will represent the AARM, AIT.

AIT is honored being listed as a finalist where only few world renowned academic institutions wherein e.g. MIT and few development organizations have succeeded. The proposed project has a plan to expand on-going activities to 10 more districts of Nepal with funding amount of about US$194,194. The pilot project was initiated in 2000 and has activities in only two districts but the idea has been widely accepted as a 'Tested Model' by the national policy makers as well as non-government organizations, and have started to expand.
