King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden to visit AIT

On February 26, 2003, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf will visit AIT. His Majesty's visit includes a familiarization tour of AIT and the event will highlight
His Majesty's inauguration of the Thailand Accident Research Center (TARC) set up at the School of Civil Engineering (SCE) with the support of Volvo.

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden will have a state visit to Thailand from February 25 until March 1, 2003 on the invitation of Their Majesties King Bhumipol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand. The visit to AIT of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf is part of the state visit.

The itinerary includes, inter alia, visits to Bangkok, Phitsanulok Province and Chiang Rai Province. In connection with the state visit, seminars and exhibitions will take place at the United Nations Conference Center, Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University and the Conrad Hotel, Bangkok.

AIT and the Swedish government have long been good partners. The Swedish Government and AIT's first formal agreement was signed on December 20. 1988 with support provided for training of Laotian and Vietnamese nationals at AIT. During the past several years, the Swedish support provided for master degree scholarships, faculty secondment, upgrading of the AIT environmental engineering laboratory, language training, short-term training for the staff of Mekong River Commission, development of environmentally sustainable aquaculture, electric power system management, and the administration of the Sida-AIT Cooperation Programme.

To date Sida is one of the major donors of AIT and its scholarship support has produced 245 graduates from the field of Environment and Natural Resources Management, Electric Power System Management (EPSM), Aquaculture, Gender Studies, Human Resources Management, Regional and Rural Development Planning, International Business, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management and others.
