Visit of H.E. Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic to AIT and Thailand's Science Park
Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President, joined H.E. Dr. Arthit Ourairat, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, and Prof. Pairash Thajchayapong, Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in welcoming H.E. Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic, and his party of 68, including ministers, government officials, members of the business community and the media to AIT and Thailand's Science Park, on Saturday, 19 February 2000.
The Dominican Republic President expressed interest in visiting AIT and the 200-rai Science Park in connection with the establishment of the Cyber Park of Santo Domingo in his country.
At a ceremony held at the RCC auditorium, the delegation was briefed by Prof. Pairash on NSTDA and by Prof. Armand and Prof. Tabucanon on AIT activities. Presentations were given by Dr. Apisak Chulya, Project Director of Thailand's Science Park, and Dr. Rom Hiranpruk, Director of Software Park. Following the presentations, the visiting delegation toured the site of Thailand's Science Park.
Collaboration between AIT and NSTDA includes a number of academic and research activities in support of the Science Park, including a research grant from NSTDA to support a study of management strategies for Asian science parks, which was carried out by four students from the School of Management.
