AARM faculty's work short listed in the World Bank 2007 Global Development Marketplace Competition

Congratulations to Dr. Ram C. Bhujel, Senior Research Scientist and Affiliated Faculty in the Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) field of study, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) whose project proposal has been short listed from among more than 2,900 entries in the World Bank organized 2007 Global Development Marketplace Competition http://www.developmentmarketplace.org)

'Aeuta Chhora Aeuti Chhori Aeuta Machhapokhari' which means 'One son, one daughter and one Fish-Pond' in Nepali, pursues the promotion of rural aquaculture through empowerment of ethnic women to fight against malnutrition and poverty. The main objective of AIT's proposal is to expand the activities of an on-going pilot project called, 'Women in Aquaculture in Nepal,' initiated by AARM in cooperation with the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal with funding received from the WDP-German Committee, a German NGO in 2000.

The team leaders of the selected projects will present their ideas and activities before a jury in the final round of the global competition which will take place in Washington DC during 22-23 May this year.

According to Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, this achievement does not only show prestigious recognition for the individuals involved in the project but also brings much positive publicity to AIT, highlighting the grassroots type of activities the Institute is engaged wherein technologies are directly applied to answer the concerns and needs of communities. Many of AIT alumni who are working in Nepal are actively engaged in the project which also serves as an excellent example of how they can contribute and work together with AIT.
