AIT Celebrates the International Women's Day

In observance of the International Women?s Day held worldwide on March 8, 2003,
AIT celebrated the event with various gender awareness activities during the
International Women?s Week from March 3-8, 2003. The event was jointly
organized by AIT?s Gender and Development Studies Field of Study and the Office of Dean of Students and Community Affairs (DSCA). The theme of the International Women?s Day for AIT this year is ?Peace for everyone. Gender Takes the Lead?.

AIT President, Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, is seen giving a remark to start the Morning Walk to celebrate the event.

The highlight of the event was a Morning Walk by AIT faculty, students, and staff together with students from the AIT Community School on March 7 . The walk led by AIT President, Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, started at the AIT Conference Center, passing the faculty and staff houses and ending at the Cafeteria. Various banners containing messages on gender awareness were carried during the walk.

Series of activities were also held to celebrate at the International Women's
Week. A seminar entitled, ?Women and Buddhism? was organized on March3. The speakers were Bhikkuni Dr. Lee from Sri Lanka and Venerable Samaneri Rattanavali of Krirk Univeristy, Bangkok, Thailand. Several films from
different countries were also shown at a film festival held from March 3-6 at
the Café and AITCC Auditorium. They were 'The Circle','Bread &
Tulips', 'Ramparts of Clay', and 'Mitra'.

An exhibition of the drawings by the students of the AIT Community School is
also being held at the AIT Conference Center until Friday, March 14. A total of
118 drawings were sent to celebrate this event.
