Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowships (API Fellowships)
The Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University invites applications
for the Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowships (API Fellowships) Program. Funded
by the Nippon Foundation, the API Fellowships Program was launched in 2000 with
the collaboration of five partner institutions in the region. It aims to help
create a new pool of public intellectuals in the Asian region, promote mutual
learning among Asian public intellectuals and to contribute to the growth of
public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.
The Fellowships are offered under two categories, API Senior Fellowships and
API Fellowships, based on the age of the applicant. Applicants must hold the
nationality or proper status of one of the five participating countries (Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand) and reside in the country at
the time of the application.
The API Senior Fellowships target public intellectuals with excellent
records and experience in their field of expertise, and are active in professional
fields such as academia, social work, journalism, business, public administration,
creative arts, etc. Those working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and
foundations are also included. The applicants must be 40 years of age or more
as of 31 August 2005; have ability and experience to conduct research and/or
professional activities in the participating countries other than his/her

but in a country (ies) other than in the applicant's native country or country
of residence; and undertake the proposed research and/or professional activities
for a continuous period between one (1) to twelve (12) months.
The API Fellowships aims to enable promising young intellectuals to
broaden their expertise and develop regional linkages at a formative time in
their careers. The applicants must be under the age of 40 as of 31 August 2005
