Information Technology Special Lecture on Essence of E-Government for High Ranking Officers, Thailand
About 54 high-ranking officials (mostly C9-C10) of the Royal Thai Government who are involved with policy making and the development of information technology system in government agencies attended the Information Technology Special Lecture on Ã???Essence of E-GovernmentÃ???, held from March 12-14, 2003 at AIT.
The Special Lecture was organized by The Distributed Education Center of the Asian Institute of Technology(AIT) in collaboration with the Thai Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center, Thailand.
The event aimed at providing knowledge and understanding of the principle and rationale of the development of E-Government; creating good understanding of the policy, overview, and direction of the development of E-Government in Thailand, enhancing the experience in E-Government development from local and foreign experts; enhancing the knowledge of Advanced Technologies by focusing on Web-Based Internet and the application of technology in government agency;
training analytical skill and applying Advanced Technologies to respond to the policy of the government as well as solving the problems occurred from the use of Advanced Technologies in government agencies; and sharing experiences, knowledge, views, and recommendations from the lecture the apply to the development of E-Government in the participants unit.
The topics included in the Special Lecture were: Overviews of E-Government by Dr. Vatcharaporn Esichaikul of AIT; Experiences from E-Government Development and Expectations from Private Sectors by Mr. Adul Winaipaet; Net Security and E-Government by Prof. Suguru Yamaguchi; ICT Update by Dr. Kanchana Kanchanasut, DEC Director; E-Government Model and Development by Dr. Wichian Chutimasakul;
Experiences from E-Government Development in Germany and Australia; Infrastructure for E-Government by Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, Director of NECTEC; Royal Thai GovernmentÃ???s Vision on E-Government by Dr. Wuttipong Pongsuwan, an Adviser to Thai Prime Minister; E-governance for Thai E-government by Dr. Damrong Wattana; and Assessment of E-Government in Thailand by Mr. Steven Furst.
On behalf of AIT President, Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost, delivered a welcome address, while three representatives from AIT, Prof. Gothom Arya, Registrar; NECTEC, Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, Director of NECTEC; and ICT Ministry, Mrs. Thananoot Treetipbut, Deputy Permanent Secretary, shared their ideas at the opening session.
