2003 GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN SCHOLARSHIPS
For fiscal year of 2002/2003, the Government of Japan has remitted US$ 549,000 as its contribution to provide 21 Master's and three (3) Doctoral scholarships at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Doctoral Scholarships
Doctoral candidates should meet AIT's admission requirements as well as the following standards set by the Japanese Government:
(1) CGPA of 3.80 or above in Master's degree
(2) Excellent grade in Master's Thesis
(3) Top 15% of class or better
Doctoral candidates should apply in the Fields of Study (FoS), listed under *FoS, with Japanese seconded faculty and must be recommended by at least one Japanese faculty member.
*FoS: Soil Engineering; Structural Engineering; Transportation Engineering; Environmental Engineering & Management; Remote Sensing & Geographic Information System; and Gender & Development Studies.
The doctoral scholarships will cover tuition and fees as well as bursary and accommodation for six semesters plus a dissertation research grant of U$ 1,000.
Master's Scholarships
Ten Master's scholarships will be allocated to the following FOS:
- Soil Engineering (1)
- Structural Engineering (1)
- Transportation Engineering (1)
- Environmental Engineering & Management (2)
- Remote Sensing & Geographic Information System (2)
- Gender & Development Studies (2)
- An outstanding applicant in any of the above FOS (1)
Eleven Master's scholarships will be allocated to priority countries defined by the Japanese Government as follows:
- Priority 1: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, and NIS (Newly Independent States of former USSR), including five central Asian countries
- Priority 2: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal
Each Master's student is entitled to a thesis grant of US$ 350 each. Candidates from Central Asian countries and Mongolia will also be provided with round trip air travel support.
