NSTDA and AIT to launch a pilot
tele-lecture project
A pilot tele-lecture project in microelectronics will be launched, based on the agreements between Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and between NSTDA and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The test program transmitted from Tokyo Tech via Superbird B-2 satellite was received at AIT on 22 March. Delegates from NSTDA as well as Tokyo Tech professors attended the event during their visit in Bangkok for the coordination meeting with NSTDA and AIT from 20-22 March.
Prof. A. Nishihara and Prof. H. Kunieda, distinguished Tokyo Tech professors, will give series of lectures entitled 'Advanced Signal Processing' and 'VLSI Design Methodologies'--via satellite link-- from May 9 until July 26. The lectures, distributed as they are, will be delivered in English for the International Graduate Course of the Department of Communication and Integrated Systems, Tokyo Tech.
This first ever activity project was initiated by three organizations of Tokyo Tech -- Global Scientific Information and Computer Center (GSICC), Center for Research and Development of Educational Technology (CRADLE), and Department of International Development Engineering (Dept IDE).
CRADLE carries a satellite system called Academic Network for Distance Education via Satellite (ANDES), which has been in operation since 1996. Since Tokyo Tech is enthusiastic in the international cooperation activities, CRADLE -- which has a lot of experiences in distance education but domestically limited so far-- will extend the distribution of lectures to worldwide. Dept. IDE, established in 1995, now produces professional engineers to contribute to international development, and recruits fifty percent of students from abroad. GSICC has a long history of research cooperation with ASEAN universities and institutions for more than twenty years.
AIT, in collaboration with NSTDA, has launched the Microelectronics graduate program from May 2000 and now is in the third year of operation. The admission for May 2002 term is now open. Please contact the Office Dean, School of Advanced Technologies, AIT (yupas@ait.ac.th) or call 02-524-5731 for more information.
