Visiting AIT
On Sunday, March 16, a Japanese delegation led by Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Member of the House of Councillors, Parliament of Japan, visited AIT.
Mr. Nakasone was accompanied by executives from the Japan Alliance for Humanitarian Demining Support (JAHDS), namely Mr. Hiroshi Tomita, Executive Director and Secretary General, Mr. Hedeaki Asahi, Senior Advisor to JAHDS, Capt. Wataru Sugaya, General Manager of Asia Operation and Mr. Amornchai Sirisai, JAHDS Bangkok Office Manager. Mr. Nakasone, a former Minister of Education and son of former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone of Japan, has been a strong supporter of JAHDS since it was established in 1998. Mr. Noritada Morita, Chairman and CEO of Asia Strategy Forum also joined the visit.
During the visit, the potential future collaboration with AIT in terms of rehabilitating and resettlement of the contaminated areas after they are demined was explored and discussed. This visit was part of Mr. Nakasone's visit to observe the work of JAHDS work in Thailand and Cambodia.
