New Chairman of the Board and the newly appointed FRC Co-chairpersons welcomed at the Special Faculty Meeting
On 1 March 2007, Professor Dennes T. Bergado, Faculty Representative, organized a special Faculty Meeting for faculty members to get acquainted with and welcome the new Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tej Bunnag and the newly appointed co-chairpersons of the Faculty Relations Committee (FRC) of the Board, H.E. Mrs. Merete Fjeld Brattested, Ambassador of Norway and H.E. Lt. Gen. (Ret'd) Khateer Hasan Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan. The event was also attended by AIT President Said Irandoust.
At the meeting, Ambassador Brattested and Ambassador Khan noted that they were happy to take on the role of Co-Chairpersons of the FRC of the Board, as this responsibility would also help enlighten them more on activities of the Institute, and highlights the important role of faculty in any academic institute as its main pillars.
Dr. Tej expressed his willingness to meet with faculty members on such occasions. With regard to direct link between the faculty members and the Board of Trustees, he emphasized that in any governance structure there should be appropriate levels for effective communication such as meetings between faculty and administration, and FRC meetings that are reported to the Board of Trustees. As a suggestion, the Board Chair noted that faculty could possibly meet prior to meetings of the Executive Committee and issues/concerns from that meeting could be reported to the Executive Committee, which serves as a better platform for such discussion. He further congratulated the whole AIT community for the achievement in improving the institute's financial situation, and on behalf of both the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees expressed full trust and confidence in the administration.
